Create Healthy Soil!
Donate your food scraps to Rosanna’s Garden to add to the vital nutrients needed for our vegetables and flowers to grow. With your help, we will reduce Seldovia’s carbon emissions by saving food waste from the landfill to return it to the Earth.
What is Compost?
When food fully decomposes back into soil, it recycles valuable organic materials that are greatly beneficial for plant growth. This rich soil eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers and reduces methane emissions (a harmful greenhouse gas). Compost is a vital soil amendment to Rosanna’s many vegetables and flowers.
Here at Rosanna’s Garden, we use a method called Bokashi Composting as well as a standard method. Your food waste can be turned into food for the many organisms living in our soil. When your scraps are taken to the Seldovia dump they are unable to effectively decompose nutrients back into the Earth and actually release harmful gasses into the environment. SO WE NEED YOUR HELP! Sign up below to participate in Seldovia’s weekly compost collection program. You’ll feel great knowing that you’re a large part in the success of feeding your community and contributing to a healthier environment.
Please have buckets ready at specific time to be bear aware. First 6 to sign up get a free bucket and lid! As the program develops, every participant will receive their free container. In the mean time, any container with a lid will work.
